I would like to recommend the movie Coraline. We went last week to see it on date night (with no kids). First of all, I love most Tim Burton films and films that are like that, kind of darker stories that are extremely creative and artistic with a dark twist. Even my big, tough, sarcastic, cop husband loved it. It really had our attention from the very beginning to the very end. The story line is geared more for adults but you could take a child that was maybe in mid to late grade school. I think that the moral is really good too for children AND adults. If you do not like Burton or his films, Coraline is not for you. Probably not a good pick for little kids either but then it all depends on the kid. This was the very first 3D film that I or my husband have ever seen. Cool! I felt like I could reach out and touch the needles as they sewed in one of the scenes. Anyone want to recommend a great movie or rental that you saw recently? I'm all ears!

I *loved* the book! I have a soft spot for the deliciously dark and macabre. I kinda drooled all over this over at my place too. But, you do realize that Tim Burton had nothing to do with this, right? The book is by Neil Gaiman (one of my favorites!) Henry Selick wrote the screenplay and directed it. He also wrote the screenplay and directed "The Nightmare Before Christmas" which is why a lot of people are assuming this is a Tim Burton project. Just wanted to give credit where credit was due. Anyway--yea that you guys had a date! Did you see it in 3D?
Yeah, I thought it did have something to do with Tim Burton at first then someone told me he didn't then I was reading that he did. So confused. It was very, very Burtonesque even if he had nothing to do with it. It was 3D and was very cool. I think date nights are even more vital for us with hubby's job. Ya know?
Whew...thank you for not taking my comment as a smartypants know-it-all! Geez--my two nanoseconds of alone time on the computer, I write/type as fast as my brain is going and it comes out snippy. SORRY!
Yes--alone time/date nights are so vital! We certainly don't get as many as we'd like, but we are doing sooooo much better at that than we used to.
Don't sweat it Dori, I'm the same way in that aspect, typing fast with limited time and trying to get my thoughts out. Good thing we hooked up as blog pals. In the future, if any of my comments come off that way you will understand :) Sometimes I am trying to type and have someone hanging on my arm and crying. OY!!! Very frustrating especially when we've stayed in the house all day and haven't communicated with anyone but Daddy before he left for work.
I've heard the book is really great. I would love to see this movie, but i did think it seemed more for adults than kids.
Ohhh I want to see this one! Thanks for the good recommendation! And 3D, now that would be a treat, i didn't know it was in 3D. MommaVal are you on Facebook? I would like to add you to my page if you are ~ xoxo ~ Momma claire
Hey, just borrowed the design documentary Helvetica from a friend and thoroughly enjoyed it. Recommend it for you if you haven't already seen it ...
