Just Some Useless Bullets

· Little Buddy Drank Bacteriostatic for the humidifier right in front of me as I had the capful sitting on the counter and was filling the tank. He plays with laundry and shaving cream caps in the bathtub so I'm sure he just thought it was water. Bad, bad, stuff. Fire department came, grandma came, neighbors called, Cop Dad nearly had a heart attack at the PD. The stuff can cause irreversible damage but didn't thank heavens. Horrible mother.

· Little Munchkin sleeps a good hunk at night and has most night for weeks. An LC told me to nurse her every 2 hours ALL DAY LONG in awake hours so she does not need to wake as often for her calories at night. Best advice I have ever gotten for newborn sleeping. Last night was bad BUT many nights are not.

· Missing watching movies with my hubby (among other things), forgot when it was last time when you start to get some of your life back after you have a baby but I think it kinda goes hand in hand with the sleeping through the night stuff? I room share with Little Munchkin for now but curious how cosleepers stay up after the baby goes to bed and watch tv with their hubby? How does that work? Among other activities. Just curious.

· Ready for spring now, too dang cold here in Chicago land. I HATE being cooped up.

· Concerned for Little Buddy. He is doing pretty well as far as adjusting to a little sister. He has intense sound sensitivity (dryer, windshield wipers, radio, furnace, fireworks, etc.) and does not like to watch ANY of his little kid movies any more? That makes for wayyyyyyyyyy too many Caillou, Dragon Tales, Wonder Pets, reran on cable all the time. I'd do anything to see some Toy Story or other kid movies that we own and no longer watch. Not sure what's going on with him but I am concerned.

· I am a SAHM (Stay-At-Home-Mom). But I HATE staying at home. I mean I love being sole caretaker and being home with my kids but staying in this house day after day after day with the sub zero temps . . . . . . . . . . NO THANKS. Need me some spring and green grass and windows open and Little Buddy playing with the sticks and the play set, etc. Oh, and walks and no coats and hats and all that fun bundle up stuff.

· This week friends are coming to visit. YEAHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!! With the holidays and everyone having illness and new baby adjustments, F-I-N-A-L-L-Y! Thank you Lord for friends. Have no idea what I'd do without them :)

· I actually got to bake zucchini bread the other day as Little Munchkin napped in her swing in the kitchen and Little Buddy was with Papa and Sessie.

· This baby wearing all the time is breaking my back. I don't mind it some times but OY VEAH, have no clue how people do it all the time. Happily? And pain free? And I have a restless baby who likes it if I am walking a straight line but once she falls asleep if I am doing laundry or dishes she would rather be in her chair. All wiggles and whimpers if I am too active. Maybe I'm doing it wrong.

· Did I mention that I am desperate for spring? With a capital D!

· Ooh, I have decided to TRY to pump out a bottle for Little Munchkin so hubby and I can attempt to go to a movie in a few weeks, or dinner? I NEVER did that before and not sure if she will take it but am eager to try. It would be a once in awhile chance to spend some time with Cop Dad. Any one out there have luck with this? I think I waited too long to introduce a bottle as they say between 3-5 weeks and she is 7 weeks old now. Hmmmmm . . . . . . . . .

Oh, scary about the Bacteriostatic! We've had to call poison control so many times. Once, it was 3 times in one week. i was so nervous that they were going to investigate me! My second was really bad about eating and drinking anything and everything. He still does it occasionally. I'm glad he is okay!

The first 6 months with a new baby are hard in every way it seems. The nursing all day and night, the cosleeping, the lack of intimacy and quality time with spouse, I MAJORLY WORRY about my other kids when there's a new baby. It fades mostly around 6 months when things get so much easier with the baby. We ended up with a pack n play right next to our bed and I turned a fan on so that it would muffle noise, but it seemed like our little guy would wake up so easily if we were talking or doing "other" things. And now I look back and see that that time really flew past, but when you are cooped up in the house during the winter like I was and adjusting and not getting enough sleep it's like you are stuck in Groundhog Day.

I'm with you on the Spring thing! I do not know what to do with myself or with my kids in this weather! I always look for indoor play places and museums and friends to have play dates with. And February is notoriously long for some reason!

Have fun with your friends and good luck with the pumping. I was never able to do it. I would plan everything around feeding or come home to feed and then go out again! Such a pain. Whenever I tried pumping though I got like 2 ounces total. It was awful! :)

Happy New Year Val!

Well, I don't know if these were useless! To me, it just lets me know that I'm not alone out there when other mommies have similar experiences.

I do have to admit, I'm pretty jealous over the fact that your princess is already sleeping so well! The first time my son slept for a solid 6 1/2 hours I had SO much energy the next day (and he ewas like 3 or 4 months old)! I actually woke up before him because I was so engorged, and not until I pumped some of my milk did he start to wake, which then threw my milk supply slightly off, but he never struggled between bottles and the boob.

As for my daughter, she never liked warm milk (isn't that weird?)so nursing never really took off. I pumped until I dried up when she was 5 months old, so again, no problems transitioning with bottles then either.

Sorry it's not a lot of help and probably a bit more than you would've like to know.

It sounds like Little Buddy's phase of not liking movies is just that and he'll move on. I'm always surprised anytime one of my kiddies get stuck in a phase or grow out of one, but I guess that's just part of being a kid!

Your poison incident reminded me of the time my son found the hubs knife and cut himself on it, which FREAKED me out!

Hubs was out of town training but fortunately my mom works in a doctor's office in town and was able to come help. The scratch wasn't deep or deforming, but sure scared me since it was SUCH a big knife.

I'll just let you imagine the "talking to" I gave my husband when he came out that evening.

Ah, kids! Glad you have your visiting friends!

Hey thanks for the comments, it is very hard for me to respond to comments these days but I will when I can. Thanks to both of you for all your comments and it makes me feel better to know what other moms have had to do and have had happen to their kids and still survived. YES Mrs. Fuzz, Groundhog Day I was just thinking that the other day. Wake up at 8 then turn on Curious George for Little Buddy and change and feed Little Munchkin, then head down for breakfast. Set up Little Buddy's tray with vitamin, half juice/half water, ask him which of three choices, yadda, yadda, yadda and so the day goes, then day after day. Blagh! Yesterday I went to Target with baby . . . . . . . whoopee? And Natalie, wow weird about the milk wonder if you could have packed your boobs in ice for her? lol And the knife? Scary! As it is with Cop Dad he sleeps on the couch with his sleep apnea so he leaves the bird (Glock) on top of our 7 foot book cabinet where little hands hopefully could not get it and the safe is in the bedroom where mommy and baby are asleep. He forgets it at home ALOT now and has to call and ask me to put the bird (Glock) back in the nest (safe). Ha! My son slept through the night at 3 months but he was NOT in the bed with me. I was in a bed next to his crib in his bedroom at the time but he also slept through the night from there on out. Try feeding more frequently with the next baby that worked wonders this time around. Every 2 hours OR less and I try to keep her awake in the day as much as happily possible. Fabulous!

Bad Mom (actually DAD) story: I was upstairs still sorta sleeping from having my tubes tied and heard a funny "zzssfrrdr" sound. Then a cry. Apparently, Husband didn't realize that BabyGirl would climb on the edge of the toilet seat and see what happens when one sticks tweezers into an electrical outlet. Who KNOWS why she was OK. But am I ever thankful. So I wouldn't really worry much... stuff happens to all of us.

Useless as far as the rest of it. They're in their 20s and I can barely remember last WEEK, let alone that many years ago.

Thinking of you often. :)

I am so sorry for the sore back, I had the same issue and had to use a layflat stroller to give my back a break.
It's tough to get up and spend time with your hubby w/cosleeping. Sleep is so precious.
Zucchini bread, yummy!
Maybe Lil Buddy prefers the shorter time of TV shows and more variety too vs.movies?
I guess I won't tell you it was 65 here and sunny, all week too.

in austrlia they dont recomment introducing bottes until 8-12 weeks so to establish nipple feeding properly ( a bit of a farce i think) but anyways my point is 7 weeks is definately not too late, in my experience every child takes to them in thier own time anyways... Not sure what bacteriostatic is but my oldest thought the green gel in the toiletrefresher rim thingy lokes pretty tasty... i only realists because her breath smelled like fake apples XD gross!
