A New Favorite

I have been watching many a kids show this winter while stuck inside with a newborn and toddler as you can imagine. I have a few shows that I really kind of like as an adult and my son watches. Then there are some other shows that are OK and then there are some shows that I cannot stand at all. But Little Buddy likes to be right next to us when I sit in the rocker and nurse Little Munchkin so I do not get much of "Mommy Shows" either because Little Buddy quickly learns that I am not near him and must come in and have his show on OR he will jump all over the room and shout at me and talk and talk and talk so I cannot hear my show. Arghhhh! Anyway, sometimes I just sit in the rocker with Little Munchkin and start nursing her on My Brest Friend Pillow and then sneak out to another room to catch a bit of the news. (OR I'll go stark raving mad). Anyway, I have to embrace the kids shows to survive and I just found a new one that I like. Oswald The Octopus is a show that we were started to watch one day and I thought, "Oh brother, what is this one about?" But it's actually very cute. I also recognized some familiar voices in it right off the bat so I investigated and I was right. Fred Savage is the voce of Oswald and David Lander (Squiggy from Laverne & Shirley) is Henry the Penguin. Oh and he has a little weiner dog that has a hot dog bun around him named Weenie. Click on this to see a short clip of Oswald in my favorite episode of him chasing the ice cream truck.

So it comes on just after Curious George is on. During this I am nursing Little Munchkin in the morning and Little Buddy just wakes up and comes in the room and watches it. I like Curious George, I think it's a cute show. I happen to LOVE Arthur! I like Sesame Street, Caillou, Franklin, Martha Speaks and Little Bear is kind of cute too. Wonder Pets, Dora, Barney and a few others that I cannot think of right now are my least favorite and I really do not like watching them. I like shows that have some kind of a moral lesson and aren't just nonsense. Yo Gabba is nonsense to me. I think it might appeal to adults and teenagers but for a preschooler? Nah. Oh, those Wiggles, don't do a thing for me or Little Buddy either. Blues Clues never caught on over here either. Oh and I thought that Sponge Bob was kind of funny and creative until they started calling other characters morons. No thanks.

Anybody else out there (moms or otherwise) who have favorite kids shows? I know that this may seem silly but I can only think that most other moms MUST develop likes and dislikes for kids shows. Anyone?

funny...we love yo gabba gabba in our house, i have even seen people with the tshirts (admittedly teens and adults) that say "dont...hit...your friends, Its..not..nice!"
Dora is the word in our house though, along with Hi 5 which is Australian, so you may not know it. Grace at nearly 3years drew our family, it went like this "that one is you mummy, thats daddy, thats me and thats Jaeda..." And whos that? "Oh thats charlie from hi 5" :)

Yo gabba gabba is a fav here too like Tara, my child has immaculate manners, they teach please and thank you, dont hit, dont bite, they teach about the seasons and all that. The wonder pets we really like as well, I believe it has taught him to tap in to his kind and humanitarian side. He always talking about team work with his brother and actually attempts to work as a team, at the pound the other day we were returning a lost dog we found and he said "mom can we save all the animals?" This came from wonder pets because they save animals every day.

He also loves Little Einsteins and Wubbzy...ok this comment was way too long about cartoons!

Little Einsteins is the personal fave here.

I honestly don't know why there's so much hype about Dora because I could only watch one episode and I wanted to rip my ears off. It sounded like everyone was yelling the whole time and speaking in exclamation marks. ARGHH!!!

I went on-line and found some Mr. Roger's clips that my son just LOVED.

I have to admit, Spongebob isn't my personal favorite but a safety net when I need to keep my toddler settled for a bit. Imagination Movers is SUPER cute and I LOVE the music...now I just need to get the kids to love it as much!

My daughter LOVES Yo Gabba Gabba! She dances along to the songs and really pays attention to it. Yes, it's loud and very bright, but like the other commenters said, they do try to get the message across about good manners. My daughter is currently going through a Dora stage....she sings along to the "We did it" song...only she sings "I did it!" Too cute! She is also loving Ni Hao, Ki Lan, which is a pretty cute show. It's about feelings and friendships.
I don't mind any of those shows, but I cannot stomach Little Bear or Max & Ruby. I don't understand why Little Bear doesn't wear clothes, but the other bears do, and Ruby is soooooo bossy. Oh well, that's why I keep the remote!

I never really watched a full episode of Yo Gabba but whenever I turn it on Little Buddy looks uninterested and I never really see the educational part of it. Just thought it was for older kids or what adults created for what they would like rather than adults. I never noticed that Little Bear wore no clothes? Hmmm. I didn't mind him but really don't like the asian oddly shaped cartoons. Just me. I DO miss Mr. Rogers and wish it was still on for my son. Then there was Gigglesnort Hotel and a few others that I liked when I was a kid. My son worships Caillou right now and many moms I know hate the show cause he is so whiney, but that is how little 4 year old boys are, usually. Thanks for the input :)
