I am very excited for Public Enemies to release on July 1st! Not only am I a huge fan of gangsters from way back when, I am also a huge fan of Johnny Depp. I love period films from the early 1900's, I think it reminds me of a simpler time and my grandparents. My grandfather was pretty wild. He was in a barbershop quartet, and a big drinker (and player) in Chicago back in those days. He has been gone for years now but for many years he told us how he would run into Al Capone now and again. What a time it must have been. It all seems so historically exciting when I think about it. My grandmother on my father's side used to hide guns under her dress for the mafia because the cops could not check there. Wild huh? Anyway, tell me what you think of the trailer. I was about to post some not very pretty pictures of my pathetic sprouting bulbs, then I wasn't in the mood to hook up the camera, etc. So, here is a trailer. I love Metacafe, there is a post to blogger option. So easy!

Cool, I love 1940s gangster films also. My grandfather was a "hack" aka cabbie in Chicago during this time, he wrote a book about his experiences, Hack 777.
Wow, that's cool Martha. I'll have to see if my library can get a hold of it. If there is any mention in that book of any of my relatives wouldn't that be something???
Oh and I almost forgot, there is a segment in that movie that was filmed just miles from my town at the Paramount Arts Center in Aurora, Illinois. Too cool!!!
That's so neat about your family, I didn't know that at all! And, um, Johnny Depp is hot!!
I LURRVVE JOhnny Depp.
Also, I couldn't help but laugh at this. "My grandfather was pretty wild. He was in a barbershop quartet, and a big drinker (and player) in Chicago back in those days."
Was a barbershop quartet considered wild at one time, cause now...
I know copswife, now they are really kind of for old farts or dorks. My grandfather was a true showman. He owned a shop and was always on the run from the bill collectors. Out drinking and carousing on a regular basis. My grandmother was in the Sweet Adelines. Nowadays nothing but back in that time it was in all the bars and clubs and one of the major forms of entertainment. TV's were extremely rare so people went out for their thrills. Then their was the prohibition and the back alley speakeasy's of Chicago needed entertainment. Besides jazz groups, there were quartets and female singing groups. It was a roaring wild time from all the stories I hear.
