UPPP Update

Well it's been close to 5 weeks since my husband had his UPPP surgery. He no longer snores like he did but he does breathe loudly. If he sleeps on his back that is when his breathing and sleep is the worst. He still has a deviated septum that the doctor would fix next if he wants to and needs it. My husband really does not have any throat pain anymore. He can eat, drink, and do just about everything he used to. He can't snort like a pig anymore and often when he drinks he feels like the liquid will come up and out his nose. This has only happened once in early recovery but always feels like it will happen. This is supposedly very common and for most does not go away. His sleep and rest is much better but for me sometimes it sounds like I am sleeping next to a vacuum cleaner hose. Not terribly loud but lots of air. I just nudge him like I used to and tell him to roll over. He may have the septum surgery in the future, he has not decided yet. I think it will also help. Then too he will have a follow up sleep study 6 months after surgery to determine whether or not it was successful and if he should still use the CPAP machine. He tried it a few times but it is not strong enough. During the sleep study prior to the surgery the nurse told him that it was too low and he would have to wait 6 months after surgery to have it adjusted. I think that will make a huge difference too.

Overall, he is happy with the results but hoped that everything would be perfect. I think that using an adjusted CPAP and having the septum surgery will also help. We'll see.

(Hope this helps you Brian!)
